Let’s start with frequently asked questions.
Why are you doing this?
Although the hedge fund world has treated me well in the past, I wasn’t fulfilled. I have always tinkered around with coding on the side, and now I decided to turn my side project into a full-time career as a software developer.
But…hedge fund life…
Time for us to part ways. It’s not you, it’s me.
What was required to get into school?
An application, first round Skype interview, independent coding project, and guided Skype code review.
Are you leaving New York?
I’m still here! Don’t forget about me! The school is called Flatiron School (it was originally in Flatiron) but is now located in the Financial District. I’ll be posted up in school from 9:00 – 6:00 during the weekdays (at a minimum), in addition to lots of projects outside of school. Sorry in advance if I’m not super social in the upcoming three months!
How much does this cost?
The total cost is $15,000. I was fortunate enough to get a Flatiron School Diversity scholarship and Spotify Chloe Weil Scholarship to subsidize the cost.
Is this credible? Show me the numbers!
Take a look at the 2014 Annual Report.
I’m interested. How do I get started?
Find yourself messing with Macros at work? Proficient/expert at Excel? I started dabbling with Codecademy and Code School. These sites are very user-friendly and introduce the material at a beginner’s level.
Current state of being: Fresh! Bring it!
